The Launch of the Hubble

April 24, 1990


"Mister Castellan, your launch will be in a few hours. Please come to the space center in Paris at 11:00." A man said on the phone. Wow! I'm so excited! I'm going to send the Hubble! I'm now at home in Le Havre, near Paris, thirty minutes by train. Now I'm just watching TV, while dipping baguette in oil and enjoying myself. I should have a feast to my excitement. Not now, I have to leave. To the station and beyond! No, just kidding. The station is a five minute walk from my home. I left my home and went to the train station. I bought my ticket and went to the platform. All aboard! The conductor would say. I went on the train and waited the thirty minutes I had to wait. In the meanwhile I'll read the newspaper. "Luke Castellan is Going to Launch the Hubble Space Telescope!" The title said. I never knew I was famous. Thirty minutes has passed and I'm officially approach the space center. Get ready.


I'm inside the space station and waiting until I take off. As always, the space center is blue with rockets and buttons and other things. I love buttons. I approached the changing room to put on my suit with the help of my friend. I exited the changing room with my white suit with the helmet. It was really hot in there! In about five seconds I was sweating. I went nearer and nearer as the rocket got bigger and bigger. Maybe even bigger than three elephants. As big as ten elephants! I climbed inside the rocket and strapped myself in the most uncomfortable seats in the whole wide world. I was vertical, as vertical as a vertical line. 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...LIFT OFF!!!


The rocket grumbled as it took off. I felt pushed up into the air. The Hubble in the top part of the rocket. All I knew was that I was inside the Discovery rocket and waiting until I get outside of the atmosphere with the Hubble inside. I couldn't wait until I pressed that red, rubbery button. It would set the Hubble out of the rocket and into space. The doors would open and the Hubble would be set outside. Then that sort of box around it would fall apart and the Hubble would be set free, taking pictures while orbiting the Earth. It has been five minutes I've waited and I am getting bored. I know what you are thinking, I get bored very easily.
